NRM Seremonie VDL wins HOY!

March 25th, 2011

It was a dream finish to the Horse of the Year show for the Mount View team with Seremonie VDL winning the Horse of the Year class. Seremonie jumped out of her skin over the very testing course designed by Leopoldo Palacios. With 18 starter’s in the first round, Katie McVean and Seremonie finished the best out of the Kiwi’s with 8 faults. The second round saw Katie go clear with a single time fault which left her sitting on equal faults with Australian rider Jamie Kermond to force a two-way jump off between the pair. It was a nail biting finish to the end with both rider’s taking a rail each, but Katie came up trumps, a second ahead of Kermond.

Seremonie VDL also performed fantastically in the Silver Fern stakes on Friday night to come home in 2nd equal place, with Katie taking out the class with her other mount Daffodil.

A huge thanks to Katie for taking up the reins for injured rider Ike Unsworth, who broke his hand 4 weeks ago.

Another highlight of the show for the Mount View team was youngster Wimbledon MVNZ, stepping up to the next level to place 4th in the Norwood gold cup. Eight year Wimbledon had only a handful of small Grand Prix starts this season with placings in the majority of the classes, so Ike was very happy with this result. Ike was the only Kiwi rider to jump off against a very strong Aussie contingency, with Billy Raymont taking the top honors with Nicalette NZPH.
